My 996TT has always rattled since purchase last July, mainly from behind the dash but also from somewhere behind the passenger seat. It has been back to the OPC 6 times but items still unresolved. They are now saying that I must pay for any further work.

Does anyone know of an Independent or specialist who has expertise in this area? Midlands area preferred.

My 996TT doesn't rattle, but my C2 used to, from the rear seats, drove me mad !
I became detective myself, popped my 9 year old in the back & went for a drive, so she could pinpoint the exact place it was coming from, which she did & we got it sorted.

Apart from behind the dash (which might involve removing the dash to investigate which I wouldn't do myself) I would't pay someone to fix a rattle.

One thing to check though on the 996TT, where the dash meets the pillar (drivers side) have a look there, sometimes you can get a rattle there if the foamy stuff that sits between the dash & the pillar moves & the bits rub.

Thanks for that. OPC responded to my latest request to fix the problem by saying "996TT always rattle". Not a very impressive response from a department representing the makers of a quality, £100,000 motor car!

LOL.

My C4S also rattled, so guess I am just lucky with the TT.

my 996tt rattles as well from the dash. Went back 3 times to opc, they fixed it every time but it keeps coming back. I now can stop it for a while by pushing on the dashboard. This lasts until I give it some excessive welly!

Good news. Porsche have agreed to continue their efforts free of charge - they had quoted at least £700 to take the dash out! The cost is now being born by the Sales Department.

My faith in this OPC is now restored (Porsche, Reading). I had previously found them to be very helpful, efficient and honest.

My 996 had a rattle behind the dashboard - I always thought it sounded like a collection of taped up-wires banging behind the passenger airbag cover. Maybe the dealers are right when they say "they all do that"? If it ever got too annoying, the solution was turn the stereo up or open the windows...

2004 C4S had a few rattles, developed pretty quickly from new.

C2 rattled, GT2 rattles, I think with any hard sprung car you will get a few. Just drive harder and listen to the exhaust note

Mine rattled when i first got it and sounded like it was coming from the dash. Turned out to be a defective gearbox mount!
