Hi guys (and Gals?)

Can anyone help me please. Just got a 98 Chim and luv it to bits - it's a whole other world after driving a Rover 75 (1.8) for the last 5 years - but I have a ...."distraction".

My passenger side door mirror glass is vibrating away like mad, not the actual mirror housing itself, just the glass. Is it just the case that the 'glue' or whatever is holding the glass mirror on has come loose?

Before I attempt to 'pull' the glass off in order to re-stick it is there anything I should know? Should the glass be levered off in a particular spot so that it doesn't shatter/break? What should I use to re-stick it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

hi ian, i'm very sorry for the rather un-informative nature of my response and i'm sure somebody will be along shortly with much better help! all i can say before you start pulling on the glass is that the wing mirrors are heated...so there's definitely wiring back there somewhere!!! if you don't have a copy yet, i would recommend investing in 'the bible'...a god send for tvr diy oh

The glass is stuck to a plastic frame with double sided sticky tape. Most likely the tape is coming unstuck. If so, and if you leave it long enough, the glass will eventually fall out. You can remove the plastic frame by adjusting the mirror fully 'up' and then putting a plastic strip through the gap at the bottom to slide the latch mechanism sideways. Or if the glass is already about to fall off, just pull it off so you can see the mechanism properly.

I had the same - waited for a warm day when the glue was soft and it just pulled off - lots of double sided super sticky tape later and we are now vibration free :-)

It's a very easy job, see the thread indicated a few replies above... it's been a while since I did mine and no problems to date.

A little tip that my local dealer gave me was to leave the heated mirror wires disconnected. Apparently, it softens the adhesive everytime they warm up, which causes it to eventually fail.

ps, you may wish to ignore this if you drive alot in the winter!
