Is it easy to remove the transmission tunel cover - the bit that
goes around the handbrake and door opening twiddly knob.
There are a couple of screws at the front into the tunnel
and a couple at the back under the tray. Is there anything
else that is hidden and is is stuck down anywhere.

The door lock button (centre of knob) is acting up and the
handbrake light stays on even when the brake is off. I suspect
dirty contacts or a loose connection in both cases.

I'm pretty sure its just those 4 screws. The only probs are the leather gaitors around the door knob etc. Won't fit over!! Might give you enough room to get in though
cheers

The gear knob unscrews, you will have to screw down the locking sleeve first, and the door opener has an Allen key screw that needs unscrewing to remove it its base. Then to get to the handbrake the center section under the tunnel needs to be removed. Its held in by self tappers and sealant.

The microswitch for the handbrake is accessed from underneath the car. Can be done with small hands without removing the exhaust.

I got to the handbrake switch from above but needed the car raised just to help see what was going on. I couldn't see any way of getting at it from below without removing the exhaust. There is a removable panel that gives very limited access - not to be undertaken lightly, especially trying to fix the switch back in again...
