Pointless Interviews
Discussion
Finally had the feedback from my Interview with SEAT.
On turning up for this interview I discovered that the HR bod dealing with the recruitment for this postion, as well as the call centre manager (the two interviewers) were old colleagues of mine.
One of them I knew only very slightly, the other I had a very good working relationship with spanning 3 years.
After a rather happy interview day I had NO doubt at all that passage to the second interview stage was assured.
Now I find that I am "Too experienced" and would "likely be bored by the job".
WHY waste both MY time and theirs on the interview if this was to be the conclusion?
Surely they could have drawn this conclusion directly from the facts that:
A: They have worked with me before
B: All the details of previous experience were ON MY CV.
DO PEOPLE READ CVS?
I know exactly what the job was FFS, Ive done EXACTLY the same thing before (albeit for a different car manufacturer) working WIH one of the interviewers...
Not a particularly effective rant Im afraid. Im tired, pissed off and sick to death of temping and pointless interviews that cost me a day off work each time...

Unlucky mate - thats not the news I would have expected but then again, being ex - merchants colleagues it wasnt going to help you. They all stab you in the back anyway, I was lucky though, I wasnt one of the 1000 people to lose there jobs!
Go and work for McDonalds or something - you wont be a temp then, LOL!

i do wonder about interviewers myself. i reckon my last one was just to make up their bloody racial minority count so they can claim to be an equal opportunities employer blah blah.
"we dont feel you had enough experience" surely as demonstrated in my CV, if they'd read it properly! hmph.
and i didnt even steal any of their luxury biscuits

But that's worse! Isn't that what interviews are for?

Like it or hate it interviews are a big part of working life.
Being an IT contractor in London for a few years I was swapping between contracts all the time. I have heard a multitude of different excuses why I didn't get a particular contract.
Personally, if I am turned down for a position be it one reason or another its now like water off a ducks back. Take it in your stride and try not to let it get you down. Next! Thats what being in the IT industry does to you, I bet a few people here can relate!

We've taken on a number of "mates" and "acquaintances" at work and I've interviewed a few myself. The trouble is, I believe, that if you are interviewing a friend then you subconsciously feel that they need to be better than perfect for them to get the job. If you think they are a good candidate, there's a little voice in the old grey matter saying "but is it because he's a mate???"
I suppose it's basically making sure that when the inevitable "got the job because he's a mate" murmurings start, you want to be able to say, hand on heart, that your mate is the right person for the job.
Your case seems pretty harsh because they must have known prior to the interview that they both knew you, and if it was me, I would have made sure that there was a totally impartial person present to make sure that you got a fair crack at it.

Just wanted to say to someone/anyone...that I've got 2 big, bad-ass interviews tomorrow and Friday. Only just started on the presentation for tomorrow's final interview (even though I've had it over 2 weeks - no change there). And found out today, that I've got an interview with a company I really want to work for, on Friday - seeing 4 of the top bods, 2 over from the States.
Talk about piling pressure on myself...stupid or what.....still, its a great way to lose weight....phhhhhrt...whoops, gotta go.....

I had it more or less confirmed today that an IT contract I was really suited for (niche software skill) was a phantom - the company has gone to a load of agencies saying it wants several people for a year when in fact it doesn't want any but wants to drive the price down with a consultancy by bluffing that it will do the work with contractors - in other words they've strung me and a load of other people along for almost a month.
Next time they really want a contractor though...
