I am now totally confused, if I put my 125 mb card in my camera, and turn it on, it says I can take 82 photos.

If I put my 256 mb card in, which is just UNDER 2 x 125, I was expecting it to say I could take just under 2 x 82 = 164, or therabouts, but it says I can take 242?, so where do the extra space for 78 more phtos from?

or is it maybe that the camera isnt properly reading how much space is on the card?

with my D70 on its usual settings it says it can take 148 pics with my 512 card. but every single time that i have filled it up it has actually got atleast 200 pics on it.
i know that it depends on how easily compactable the pics are, but that would indicate to me that the cameras are a bit lazy at really knowing how big a card is.

Ah!, previously I had deleted all images, just tried formatting it in the camera, and now the camera says I can take 124 pictures, thanks for that.

Incidently when I went to the format feature, it said 41.5 k used, used on what, with no images I have no idea.

Hook the card up to your computer and have a look at it.

I found a rather large PDF on one I bought that had a lot of product advertising on it.

Quite interesting but it would have been better if the packaging had made that clear.

Easy to delete as well.
