Anyone catch an article in Classic Cars or Classic and Sportscar a month or so ago about a white Stingray? It was a rare beast as it's one of just over a hundred with a special racing engine. Worth many 10s of 1000s apparantly.

Well, I bumped into it today at this place:

www.americancarsuk.com/

It's gorgeous

Probably the all aluminium ZL-1 motor at a guess. The car wouldn't have had a radio or a heater either - (assuming it is a ZL1) - and were difficult to order. Chevrolet didn't want normal everyday 'Joe's' to have these, they were intended as race cars, and so didn't offer them with normal creature comforts to try and discourage everyday drivers. Apparently to get one, the dealer had to order a unique combination of option codes (probably similar to trying to get cheats on a playstation 'star triangle square, hold down left direction button whilst pressing start...)

That is assuming it is a ZL1....

I know the car well. It was prepared for the Targa Florio - the year escapes me - was shipped out there and promptly banned by the organisers as it was too much of a threat.

Malcolm has turned down a couple of offers from the States in excess of $250,000

It's in immaculate condition. I bought my C5 from Malcolm who owns it and he also stores my collection of cars there too. He has roughly 30 - 40 yanks and 20 or so classic Fords for sale so worth a visit. I store my C5 there and a few other sixties vettes spend most of their time there too.

That's the baby. Glad you know what I'm talking about

I didn't see your C5, although that may be stored away from the cars for sale?

I only got to meet Paul, but he seemed a nice chap and a genuine Petrolhead. It's just a pity they are 200 miles from where I live, otherwise I'd be hanging around there all the time!

I've no idea on spec only that malc's owned it for donkeys years. Paul is a great bloke but obsessed with Fords - he flogged me the spanking white Cossie. I take it you didn't look round the storage sheds at the back then? The vette is parked between the Urraco and the '59 Ford Ranchero?

I'll get some details on the Targa Florio car and let you know. Did you see the Cobra Superjet Mustang? That's a great car.

He's had that one there for years,i think it used to be around 18k IIRC,what makes a 429 "Super cobra Jet" different to a 429 Cobra jet,was it the rear end and staggered rear shocks??,or was there more??

No idea. I almost bought it last Summer for £15k but went for the C5 instead. Had too many 'classics' trailered back from Le Mans in the past and fancied a stress free ride. Til I crashed the Vette into the armco near Calais of course

The reason for my trip was to view (and buy!!!) a 2.8 Capri from them (see thread in GG). I was hoping to get them to deliver the car to me (it's 200 miles away) but if I need to make another visit I'll certainly check the place out a bit more and find your cars

They do deliver. They have a covered lorry they use on a daily basis. They move most of my cars around and are very competitive on price. I guess it's down to the ££££'s.

Let me know if you're coming back up - the vette needs a run

Cheers matey. I was hoping to be able to collect it (or get it delivered) by Thursday as I want my new toy for the weekend! However, Paul's putting it through an MOT and getting it serviced first, so I may have to wait.

I'll keep you posted though, as I've never been in a Vette and it's definately my sort of car. I very nearly swapped my TVR 350i for a C4 a few years back, but bought my 300ZX instead.
