Help with Headlight Seals

I'm replacing the reflectors on a 98 4.2 (original frog eye lights)
I've got some new reflectors and seals. But the new seals are a flat ribbon shape in cross section rather than the "thick rubber tube with a slit in it" that are on it at the moment.
The existing seals go around the outer edge of the glass lens.
The new seals don't look as if they would fit around the outer edge of the lens.

I seem to remember somewhere a comment about inner and outer seals. (Not sure if it was a PH post or a TVR related web site) Could these new ones be inner seals?

Does anyone know if the design changed on later cars?

Not a show stopper. I'll just reuse the exisitng seals - after off the ubiquitous Sikaflex 221 sealant

I changed mine but I used the rubber type with the groove. Castle TVR did say that there was another type around and that these were a pain to fit.

Yes the rubber tube ones are easy to stretch onto the lens.

I might give the new ones a try to see what the fit is like.
Although with all the sealant I had to cut away they couldn't be a worse fit than the existing ones.


BTW did I mention how much Sikaflex is involved in fitting the headlamps?
If it could be done with superglue instead I'd have an instant light weight
