911 Turbo or GT3

Cannot decide between the 911 Turbo of the GT3. Wont be buying for a while but budget will be around 30-40k.
On paper the figures are roughly the same. Whats the fastest round a track.
I am an occasional track user and wont be using it everyday.
Lastly what are the running costs of each ?

Stand by for when everyone wakes up.....you either gonna get totally confused by all the arguments about which one is best or politely directed to the last thread on this which seemed to last for ages...take a look down the Porsche thread listing you'll see this one has gone on & on & on.

Although to be honest with your budget you may struggle to find a decent Gt3, starting prices for a Mk1 seem to be around the low 40's.

The only advice I'd give you is to at least drive both, you'll quickly see they are very different cars for different purposes. The Turbo will be quicker more of the time than a GT3 on most roads. Whichever you choose you'll be well pleased.

Based on what you say and your budget I would go GT3.

You will get a nice GT3 for 40K. You will get a much more ropey Turbo for the same money.

GT3 miles better on track.

Lots of good things said about him here and on PCGB, he might be able to help your finances stretch that little bit to get a car that would really suit you.

Hopefully when some of the longer serving members wake up they'll pass on some advise and offer you a few pointers to what you should be looking for and potential dealers to work with.

The absolute best advice should be to take an extended road test in each.

The problem being (dealer opportunity ?) how can this best be achieved ?

For £40k one could find a very nice LHD GT3 Mk1 --- or a rather worn RHD ?

996 Turbo ? Are there any around for less than £45 k ?

I love the look of both these cars and just cannot decide. I will try and sort out some test drives when I get a chance. I live in central London, can anyone recommend any friendly dealers who welcome test drives?

Andy, I've not had a problem getting test drives of Gt3's or turbo's when I was looking either from OPC's or independent dealers. i think the main think is go in be honest, give them confidence that you didn't just get bored that day & feel like going for a blast in someone else's car. Each time I've been in the showroom & arranged to come back at a later date to drive the car. You shouldn't have a problem getting a chance to drive both.
