Have had my 535d since November and twice the i-drive has crashed, 2nd time being yesterday, it reboots but its annoying. Secondly the automatic lights seem to get confused, ie, they go on going through a tunnel then forget to go off.

I suspect I am not alone, but has anyone else experienced these glitches and more importantly have they found a cure.

The car is still in warranty but I prefer to speak to the dealer with a degree of knowledge so as not to get fobbed off not that they ever would of course. I'm not a cynic really!

Any help would be appreciated

I've only had my car three weeks and I haven't had the iDrive problems, although it does sometimes seem to forget settings. The auto headlights are too sensitive and sometimes come on when there is plenty of ambient light, but I had that problem in an M3 a cople of years ago. They should be able to adjust the sensitivity. My biggest issue is that the comfort access has all but stopped working.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it not possible to switch of the I-drive and U-drive?

Absolutely, but said gadget operates music, ventilation, phone and sat nav (when needed).

No offence ment it is only that the pure driving experiance seems to be getting clouded with techno tripe and our heroes at BMW HQ are doing there best to perpetrate the motion.

No offence taken. However the car comes with it and to honest apart from the above mentioned niggles it does not detract from what is a belter of a car.

You can turn all the gizmo's off but it keeps telling you there turned off!!

iDrive saves having a zillion buttons, so I guess it helps. Mine hasn't crashed yet, but only done 1000 miles so far. Presumably you can find the version and they can tell you if they have an upgraded one?

I have also got a 535d.
I do agree that it saves having buttons/switches on the car, but i certainly haven't yet remembered how to access everything, especially the climate stuff when i want to change something quickly.

Had a hire Fiat once - with the auto-lights thingy. Waste of time and turned them off. Ok, I can get the windscreen wipers and I like those, but the lights one is so variable that the electronics / intelligence required is far too much at the moment. Therefore I have to assume that its not worth bothering with at the moment. Nice idea but practicality says that its not quite that simple....

I just turn them on when it gets gloomy and then off when it's brighter.
Don't bother with the auto-function on them.
