Where can I get a cheap telly online?
Discussion
I've had a Panasonic TV on order from Empire Direct for a couple of weeks, the quoted delivery time was 5 days. I can understand things taking a bit of time with sales, christmas etc, etc. Anyway I called them a couple of days after placing the order to be told it would be seven days (working) and that I'd get a call from their delivery co and the TV would arrive wednesday (yesterday). I spoke to them again on Tuesday, they said it had been despatched and expect a call to confirm the delivery time, and if I had nothing to all them back on Thursday so they could chase the delivery co.
So..no TV or call, so I called them, to be told that it had not been despatched, it would be despatched this friday and would then take another two weeks to get to me.
Needless to say I'm livid and would like to buy the TV from somewhere else, do any of you have any contacts in the trade who want an easy sale?
Anyone have any good or bad view on empire direct? Have I just been unlucky?

Normally they are very good but a colleague has just received a tv from them after waiting for weeks. Apparently, when she complained, the guy said that it was happeniing a lot because of some numpty who is incapable of inputting orders correctly so orders are going missing.
I don't know whether any of this is true or whether they are simply a shower of sh1te now but you can take a degree of comfort from the fact that you're not the only one.

Admittedly not from a website, but my mate bought a cheap 28" widescreen tv (in silver) from Macro just before Christmas for £130, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the picture or sound.
It's badged as a Watson and the picture quality (Ok sound is a different matter) isn't a million miles from my own Tosh which cost nearly 10 times as much!

Pick the telly you want, then head along to www.kelkoo.co.uk and see if it finds a decent price for you...
Thanks, I've tried most of that, the problem is that Empire Direct have it for £750 which is £250 cheaper than the high street and a few quid less than other online retaliers.
Speaking of which can someone clarify if it is legal for them to take the cash off my credit card before they despatch the goods?
Thanks

Have a look at www.easyvalue.com, part of the Stelios empire. You can search for a particular brand/model and it will show you a comparison of different offerings from various retailers, some web based and very cheap!
Which model of TV was it you're after?

www.unbeatable.co.uk don't always live up to their name, but worth a try.
I agree with going to John Lewis though, I won't ever buy a tv from anywhere else. They match dixon etc and you get a 5 year warranty on 28" and above for free.

Kelkoo and Shopsmart Showed the best deal out of about a dozen e-tailers was from Comet's online store when we bought our Panasonic TX28PL1 a few months back.
Just recently bought a Panasonic 15" Tau from www.robertsons-online.co.uk and they were excellent, but beware they'll charge you an extra £15 for saturday delivery and will only deliver to the address the card used for payment is registered to.
Colleague bought same 28" TV as mine from Robertsons and got a great deal. Tey accidentally sent him the upgraded 100Hz model at the same price as the 50Hz unit. Jammy git...!

Bugger, thanks for that, they have it for £748 inc delivery which is £1 cheaper than Empire direct, alas no stock for two weeks. I must say I'm tempted.

I bought an entire home cinema setup from one of our very own Pistonheaders before Christmas (nearly three grands worth). He has a shop in Bolton and the service was second to none. I'll admit at times our telephone conversations disintegrated into car talk, but on the whole I was 110% satisifed with all aspects of the service both he and his company provided.
I would recommend his company to anyone. Has he contacted you already ?
I'm not sure if Ted will allow me to divulge who it was. If Ted agrees, I'll tell you.
