Hi all,

this months issue of car is really good IMO. Noble M15 and some great adventure stories: driving a disco to timbuktu, a lada to chernobyl and my humble effort with the 207 in majorca. Here are just some low res jpegs straight off the memory card (shrunk a bit) from the contact strip the 1d produces:

Here are a few other ones I liked that didnt make the cut:

So what's the scoop with your work then . . . do you only do the photography or do you do the driving/review as well . . . how many folk work on a review of a car like that then ?

Pics are spoiled, for me, by the car itself . . . The car says "overtake me - I'm a blue rinse special" . . . but I guess it's pay the bills or not when that's your business . . .

Agreed. I like the shots and what they are intended to do but the car is a disappointment. I have yet to see a 207 shot that even began to make it look 'right'.

If someone was to say that is looks like an ugly 206 which had just had a bad experience at a drug company trial I would have to agree.

Pugly?

Could you paste a different car in there Matt? The backgrounds are too good to waste.

I thought I kinda knew that shot from somewhere. I like it alot all the same.

I've never really liked cars shot with this lens:

Don't know why, but it just buggs me! Great shots all the same. Who are the two people in the shots? Red top driving and white t-shirt? Are they all along for the shoot/article?

Good work Matt - Like 2 & 8 & 10 best (actually I just hate the look of the front of the car, so that ruins most of the others).

I only do the photography (you clearly havent seen me drive...) In majorca there was me and a journo who did the whole lot in a day including all the driving etc. Back at the mag there are the designers and the repro guys involved in laying it out etc.

As for the car, I find it more fun doing these kind of cars than the supercars or sexy coupes because its more of a challenge to come up with something interesting (lambo + point & shoot = good shot) and it really gets the creative juices flowing. Im actually keen to do some stuff for fun of less obvious choices... Its not about paying the bills as such. Editorial car photography is about getting a job done to the best of your ability, in frequently very difficult circumstances, not swanning around hoping the glamour of the subject will rub off on you.

What do you mean by lens? Do you mean angle/perspective/composition?

The guy is the journo who went with me.

The front has two different looks depending on what spec you go for. Neither will be used in an oil painting...

In that shot above, with that big mouth, it looks like a Basking shark.

Sorry, my terminology is pretty poor. The type of lens that distorts the image, the way the edges wrap away from the camera... Ummm... telephoto?

Wide angle - it's called barrel distortion, and can be corrected using something like photoshop, but it's more often than not a deliberate choice by the photographer.
