Go to the Camtune boys just down the road (from you, and the OPC).

What a load of cobblers! The 996TT engine is derived from the GT1 block as is the GT2 and GT3. They do not suffer with RMS problems. MkI GT3s are superb cars but you might find it a little harsh if you are planning on a lot of road driving. With that said, plenty of people do a lot of road miles in GT3s, me included (albeit a MKII).
Sounds like the salesman needs to get his facts right...

Salesman talking bollox. The 6k he is referring to would include a front end respray, alloy refurb, perhaps a few tyres, a warranty and maybe front radiators if they are leaking through chips or corrosion. Obviously this figure will vary from car to car and they'll obviously protect their margin with the buy in price.
I've not heard of 996TT/GT2/GT3 suffering from RMS. RMS affects C2 and C4. The only early problem with a few turbos was porous block, which porsche sorted out by replacing the affected engines. The comment about the GT3 mk 1 is laughable. The car is further down the depreciation curve and was made in far fewer numbers. From a VFM perspective it is the one to buy, even if it's worthwhile spending some money on getting larger front brakes if you are going to track the car.

Porsche IS a mass selling car company. It's a great shame your salesman didn't recognise he was talking to an enthusiast.........

(PS - 4 years of 996TT running costs in my profile, bloody reasonable aside from depreciation)

Hi Mark
spotted this thread just after I spoke to you, looks like we are both looking for similar cars.
Look at my 996 Turbo thread!
Camtune have a very silly x50 in silver at 580bhp, they had a black one but its gone!
I have checked all the OPC's for Turbos and they don't have anything I like, mainly because I only like black interiors!
