I have a slightly mad family member who is trying to upset people in my close family with emails and the like. He keeps changing email address slightly so I keep having to check all my families email accounts deleting and blocking those address's.

The email he uses is based on one address with minor changes just wondered if there was anything I could do to block a series of address's like with a wild card * or something like that.

Any ideas? (these are all yahoo or hotmail accounts that he is sending to)

He is a bit mad to be honest.

Short history is that he is not a nice bloke (he is my uncle) he disappeared never visited his mother then turned up a few years back and after giving him the benifit of the doubt he went mad and punched my mother (she was 68 at the time), then shortly afterwards my granmother became ill and spent 6 odd months in a home where he didnt bother to visit and unfortunatly she died. My mother quite rightly didnt want to have any contact with said brother after being hit.

Now he has is sending emails trying to give the impression that my mum needs help is mad and dangerous etc etc.

I block each new email address as it come through and check email accounts of my family but really wish I could just get him to sod off

On Hotmail's front page, open OPTIONS (up on the right hand side in small print) and go to JUNK E-MAIL OPERATIONS. Fourth one down is BLOCK SENDERS.

Thanks for that as well, I have been doing it but he keeps changing email addy's. Annoying rather than anything else, parents dont pick up email that often so its easy for me to check once a day and hopefully he will get bored when no body replies. It is getting quieter.

You need one of these, applied liberally to the offending email source and you should find it stops it fairly quickly.

Only half joking, the guy did punch his 68 year old mum.

surely its not an email blocker you need - but 1 hour with your solicitor to see if you can have a non contact order put on him. the word "harrassment" springs to mind.

My thoughts exactly.

Might be worth getting your mum to change her email address and any other family member who is frightened by the content of this nutter's emails. Definitely worth reporting to the police too bearing in mind what he did to your mother. Your call but just because he is family, don't excuse his behaviour - he's clearly dangerous. Oh, and keep the emails as evidence.

Thanks for the advice,

To make the situation a bit more tricky he lives in belgium so getting international law to take effect is more hassle than its worth.

So far I have managed to keep the email account free but I did say to my parents that if it got too much then it would be a case of new accounts. its getting less and less frequent so hopefully he will just give up soon but I am still considering legal action but I suspect he will just be happy that he has wound us up to that extent so just trying to ignore him for now.

I would try going through his ISP and get them to bar him under their terms of use. There can only be a limited number of ISPs for him to choose from, and once you have chopped those options off he will find it much harder to reach you from a home/work account.
