hi everyboday ...
yesterday when i was exploring the engine bay of my chimaera,

www.pascaltarabay.com/pamir/eng2.JPG
i noticed this small filter which was almost falling down ...when i touched it i saw that it was holding on there by luck ... then i opened the plastic cover and saw that the sponge inside was covered with grease and almost not functioning ...i replaced it with another piece of a sponge !!(i know its stupid to do it) and inserted it inside back to its place ?!!
can you tell me what is this and how should it be replaced and attached back??????!!!! (kind of glue ? filter???)
thanks

I've been searching the threads on this as I recall someone saying once that they had noticed water dripping onto it from the grille in front of the windscreen and had constructed a shield over it - N.E.Way, I think it's a breather for the rocker cover, though I may be wrong.

It is a breather for the rocker cover

Get one from your neaest dealer (Rover or TVR) if you reall want, although sponge and super glue seems fine to me

seems awful crowded on them there left hand drive air con power steering models .. everything shoved on the wrong side waaaay back in the engine bay like that. can you reposition the coil so it doesn't interfere with the breather? .. seems like it's being knocked to one side.

I think it's actually an air inlet rather than a breather. A breather would normally have an oil separator, which would be quite bulky. Most engines nowadays have a breather vented to the inlet manifold rather than fresh air, this is how TVR do it too. So most of the time, the rocker covers are under a slight vacuum. The air vent is optional but lets air in to the rocker covers - the filter would be to keep crud out of the engine.
