Does anyone have in gear accel times for a Chim 500? I have recently purchased a used example and I am after in-gear accel times from say, 60-80 in 3rd etc etc (on a private road of course!) to ascertain how 'healthy' the car is.

Cheers

Mark, not sure what the official figures are but I can garuntee you'll fall short of whatever is the official TVR figure...

The best way is to get on a rolling road and have someone take a look, either Austec www.austec.co.uk/ or Surry Rolling road (owned by our very own Vixpy1) www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?h=0&memberId=16185&f=141 are based in the SE.

Autocar figures for Griff 500:-

mph 5th/4th/3rd/2nd
20-40 6.1/4.1/2.7/1.8
30-50 5.7/3.9/2.6/1.7
40-60 5.4/3.8/2.6/1.7
50-70 5.4/3.8/2.5
60-80 5.5/3.9/2.5

Add a couple of seconds for a Chim ;-)

Many thanks!

Interesting reading - I have timed on a private road ?!!? as follows:-
80-100 / 4th /2.97
60-100 / 4th /5.97

which implies 3 secs 60-80 - better than the 3.9 listed.
Additionally, 60-80 in 3rd was aprox. 2 secs - again faster.
Curiosly, my car has slight muffled 'tick' which it has been said could be a camshaft, and is mechanically noiser when cold under medium load. Maybe I should stop worrying and enjoy the car.
Thanks again.

how are you timing these runs? Dont forget a speed camera detector is always delayed by a second or so.

Time using a stopwatch strapped to the wheel. I hold the constant base speed for a short time then floor the pedal. Timings are pretty consistant. Note that I have calibrated the speedo using those circular (red-yellow segmant) marker disks on the side of the M'Way and the speedo is within 3%.
