coolent issues

when i increase the revs somewhat the coolent temp goes into the red for a while then goes back to 90 degrees. is this normal?

also, my coolent seems to be fairly low but...

a) i cant bloody see into the tank that well (yes, with the lid off) and

b) what the is 'two inches' supposed to be? its too dark!!

does everyone simply use the coolent suggested in the handbook or do people wait for a service to get this checked?

I can't say I've noticed the temp gauge .... but, on my 99 Griff 500 I use a little maglite to look into the swirl pot and guess at a 'mans' 2 inches down from the top ..... just to be on the safe side.

I got told by Austec that because they run so hot it will use coolant .... mine does, but not too much - I do, however, check it every time I check the oil .... which is once a week or every couple of hundred miles.

Our 500 runs at around 2 inches from the bottom. About half way is a good starting point but each one is different and will find its ahppy level.
Just keep topped up at least weekly.

right from what i can see mine is at about half way at the mo, actually saw it working the other day when i had the bonnet off. funny little thing!

Griff 500, runs at 1/2 way up the tank - little bit of dowling with a mark on it in the garage that gets dipped into the tank: Sad but works.......needs topping up half an inch or so every 3 to 400 miles.

Don't like the sound of it going into the red - fans should kick in before it hits the red (I think?!?) have seen other threads on hear about that might be worth a search.

Your index finger is about 2 inches long, shove that into the swirl tank and wiggle it about, not wet and you need to top it up a bit until your finger is doing a Gene Kelly impression (for those youngsters out there, he danced to and sang Singing in the Rain - you know, the VW Golf advert )
