Introducing a law on exceeding acceleration limits

Just a thought - We all know how the government, the transport departments and think tanks are making such a big issue over breaking speed limits, and have even gone as far as experimenting with black boxes and GPS speed zone engine governors. I was wondering how long it would be before they thought about a law regarding the limit at which you or your car can accelerate ?
Imagine the scene, a blue set of of lights appears in your rearview mirror. You pull over and stop. A cop
comes over to the window and says "Excuse me sir, but do you know how fast you were accelerating ? I am afraid you were accelerating away from the roundabout at 10ft per sec squared and this is a 5ft per sec squared zone!! That would be a £80 pound fine and a manditory fitment of a 20mm air restrictor for 6 months !!" 
What's your thoughts on an 'acceleration limit' ?

Wouldn't put it past 'em. My view on it is that it would be a law introduced on an envy basis rather than for any logical reason.
Although we do all know that *inappropriate* acceleration can lead to accidents.....generally if its appropriate to go at a particular speed its appropriate to get there as quickly as you can....
Don't think it'll ever happen. Although it may become impossible to buy cars with more than such and so a BHP number....

I got pulled for accelerating in my car. It was a clear road with no turns etc etc. and I only did so to 40 (50mph road). He pulled me and said he 'could' do me for dangerous driving, I said ok, sorry and he told me where it would be 'more suitable' for me to accelerate and drive a tad faster

Silly idea. Following some numpty politics a few years back, all Jap bike manufacturers made a gentlemans agreement to limit UK bikes to 100bhp (or 125bhp - can't remember which).
Tuning companies made a packet at the time. Slowly the manufacturers 'forgot' the agreement and the 'horse race' started again.
BTW - Germans bikes are legally restricted to 100PS already.
If it's happening on bikes, surely cars will follow.

All good - although didn't they also say as quickly as possible while keeping under 3000rpm

Ah, the jealousy effect ! just 'cos their lousy cars can't do it, they have to get arsey. I got pulled for a very minor wheelspin. Pathetic of them, wasn't speeding either. They said it was "a bit cowboyish". I was wondering if that is what the charge would be in court. "M'lud, the defendant is charged with being a bit cowboyish".... FFS.

I always thought that the police would consider charges of driving without due care and attention if you spin the wheels - their view being that if you do that you are not in proper cpntrol of your vehicle on a public road.
So I never do this with a squad car behind me. Then again with a diesel automatic its not particular easy at all nowadays.
I guess almost *anything* could be deemed "not in charge".. but that would be a bit silly. Imagine getting a ticket for not having BOTH hands on the wheel at all times. So every time you changed gear, you'd be technically "out of control". These days I would try very hard not to attract attention!

I was pulled after 'violently accelerating' away from a roundabout onto a dual carrigeway and got 3 points for it. It was 6:45am on a clear road and I suspect plod was bored.
It was dark, he was hidden on a little slip road off the road. I was doing about about 5mph over the limit following (at a safe distance) a couple of other cars I'd caught up when he put the blues on.
He said that a combination of the two 'offenses' was sufficient for a fine. My first points they were too.
It was about 7 years ago and I was in my old 16v Clio.
Never really questioned whether I could have appealed, but I've always felt it was a bit harsh.
