dash headaches

my dash needs changing. rang leven and they told me that mine was a stewart warner dash. du du duuuuuuurrrr!!

which means, they dont do alloy dashes for my griff

what do i do?? i really want the alloy finish as seen here: www.pistonheads.com/uploads/news/7363-1.jpg

re-veneering is not an option because the company is miles away from me and its too expensive.

dont really like the carbon finish as the interior is already too dark for my liking. and i aint usin foil before anybody suggests that

the stewart warner are the make of instruments used in the dash i.e rev counter, speedo etc,
should imagine some one with a precat has an ally dash or has had one made sorry could,nt be of any more help

A couple of ports of call.

Heard of some people stripping the Venner off and getting the backing which is steel Polished.

Take the dash out make a template and get someone to make you one up, Not sure how much that would be but I know someone that made the Dashes in loads of diferent materials once he had a template,(unfortunatley I dont think he does them anymore but mail me if you want me to try and ask him for you?)

I bought my alloy dash from Leven, the original had the stewart warner instruments in and my original dash was used by Leven as the template. Don't know if they have now stopped doing it but mine fitted fine. Send me an email if you want a picture.

I rang the today and jukes I think it was was adamant that they do not produce older griff dashes. i'm certainly not qualified to take the existing dash out myself and really they just didn't seem up for doing it.

strange they didn't want the business. also still a bit bemused why there'd be so much of a problem with it.

I just presumed that it was a case of taking out what was there and placing a new one in? obviously not that simple...

now it appears that placing a template over the top of my exisiting dash is only option. that surely must be a basic job. don't know if leven would do that, I may ask them tomorrow

Thats what Leven did with mine.

I bought a Stewart Warner dash from Leven in '04 so they definitely used to do them. I wouldn't stick something over the top of the original dash - it'll never look right. Replacing the dash is a fiddle - not just removal / refitting, but swapping the instruments over as the brackets are glued to the back of the dash panel. Personally I'd get a non SW pre cat dash and make it fit. Well, it will fit, the issue if any will be with the instruments. Proabably you'll find the bezels sit proud of the dash, butting up against it as opposed to sitting flush as standard. Ask Leven what's the difference between SW and non SW and see if they / you reckon much would be needed to get it in.

right, have my dash template from ACT. it has the swirly SE design.

looks fine, but i am still unsure if it is a replacement or simply goes on top of what is there ?? i think from a previous post i can but Shane at SFR was dubious and also warned me about the amount of work a whole dash refit was.

could i get a foil material to wrap around the template or stick it to the surface of the template?

any ideas welcome.

G-Boy.......... Re read the earlier thread I prompted you on! The ACT is a stick onto existing dash type and its supposed to have the swirly design,its called machine finish! You could however cover it with a carbon fibre effect sticky back plastic before installing,all the installtion advice is on that thread! cheers Rob any ideas welcome.

Hi, I have about ten sets of Griff Ali Dash sets, propper things. Let me know if you are still after a set - not too expensive either.

bugger! a little too late. gone for the cheaper and hopefully easier option of putting a plate over the existing dah and covering the plate with carbon fibre.

should look alright if it all fits and glues in. (getting right into the TVR way of things now )
