Had I not had a work mate with me at the roadside this evening, I would not have believed my own ears.
A Smart car trundles around the corner passes us at the kerb and as he changes gear to accelerate away we hear.....THE HISS OF DUMP VALVES

A popular mod.

As are turbo induction kits and 84bhp ECU reprogramming, and various acoustic enhancement systems.

I've been to a meeting of smart owners (A buddy of mine used to tune them, I think he still does), everyone discussed motors and those not driving got pissed, just like a PH meet really. The amount some people spend on them is incredible. I've seen people spend £2k+ in 2 hours on wheels, exhaust, turbo induction kit and ECU reprogramming. Bailey Dump Valves are just another way of making your Smart different from the masses.

Although a lot of fun around town they'll never be performance cars. Accordingly I understand why people take the piss out of them. But for what they are designed for they are very good, even if a little overpriced IMHO.

Great for parking as well!!

Gobsmacked...I never in my wildest nightmares, imagined, that anyone would do anything in one of those, except park and run off very quickly. and yet here I am, learning of another (slightly disturbing) world,

hey, I had a DV on my Smart. Got bored with the sound. I used to post hundreds of items on the Smart club board. SOme nice people there. Some idiots as well, but mainly ok. Got a bit trivial sometimes, and the arguments got VERY heated...

Hey Hertzbiker!

Who are you? You may well recognise me from thesmartclub or more likely S2CRREW.......Im not saying im a trouble maker or anythingbut I do enjoy the arguments there!!

Anyway, topic in hand....My first Smart had a dumpvalve and I liked it alot. Smarts aren't to everyones taste, but then that would be boring wouldnt it?

Trust me anyway, Modding gets alot worse than just dumpvales on a smart....check out www.s2crew.com and laugh your arse off at this lot!

That Honda CRX-lookalike Smart Targa thing would suit performance modifications such as dump valves and bore-outs, and it's rear wheel drive. Remember, Abarth, Cooper and Porsche all started out by tuning what most petrolheads would consider shopping trollies. It's not like it's a boltonboy Saxo is it?
