Changing radio header
Discussion
I knew there'd be a catch.... I carefully made sure I bought a Blaupunkt header unit that was a direct replacement for the unit installed but do you think I can get the old one out ?
Do they normally use the installation cage for radios as mine seems to be very firmly attached... when I put the release keys in I can't feel them engage with anything although there is a twanging noise like they're pasing over a catch or something..
How do you get access to the radio area as it seems to be completely enclosed from above and below ?

Are you sure they are in the right way?
The little bump needs to face towards the stereo to grip it. The actually tool just pushes the prongs on the cage out the way so that the stereo is released.
If it won't grip push both tools in thus releasing stereo and see if you can try and pull it out some other way, perhaps a small flat head screwdriver to prise the stereo out, obviously being careful of the veneer.
If this still doesn't work drive down to your local park in the evening and I'm sure you can find a 13 year old that can have it out in about 4 seconds
Hope this helps

Aaarghhh - it won't budge... is there any way to gain visual access behind the radio to see how it's held in there ? As far as I can see the only way to get close is to drop the passenger side panel under the dash and shine a torch in there and feel around.
I presume the radio is/has to be in a cage as there's no other way to get it in there but it won't budge a millimeter.
Worryingly when I put the tools in (correct ones supplied by Blaupunkt) they just waggle around as if there's no cage there at all.
Maybe I'm just doing something wrong but no amout of wiggling or angling of the tools seems to make any difference...

Well... went to Castle TVR, they couldn't shift it, went to Audiofile (as recommended by Castle) and lol they can't shift it either so it wasn't just me. Car is booked in to have it "Surgically" removed by Audiofile in a week or so. Apparently when this happens they take the header apart from the front and remove it from the inside out so I'll have a nice bag of bits.
Going to get the radio panel re-veneered at the same time from TVR Car Parts - any other recommendations ?
