Well... you say that, but isn't that the price range you are buying in and you haven't bought one yet! That says to me the cars you have been looking at come along few and far between and the ones that do aren't cars you'd like to buy
For a standard unknown 96-97 Cerb with high-ish miles, the prices sound ok, if a little on the low side, but £10k is not the right price for a known "good" and well loved/upgraded 96-97 Cerb, they seem to go for around £14k.
The right price is the one people are prepared to pay for them, which doesn't necessarily have to be the sticker price. It's supply and demand quite simply, there are a lot of unsold cars at present which will find their own level over time. Price's are still fairly similar to what they were 2 years ago for some cars.
It's pretty much the same for any TVR really, the right car will always sell at the right price to the right buyer. What that is though is the $64K question, it differs wildly between cars, sellers and buyers.

i'm still looking i have been working too much so i hav'nt been to see many
looked at some in a dealers sunday they were crap loads of marks and scrape's
i have 2 weeks off at the end of the month and intend to buy one then
hands up i only have a small budget but i know what i want when i see it
and it might not be a TVR

I suppose you can buy an early totally un-modded standard Cerb for £10k. Then take it to a good TVR Indy for a service,if NOTHING is wrong it can easily be £1k, if something is wrong, then who knows what it will cost! It might need new tyres, so add £500, new shockers needed? well thats another grand, and so on and so on...... suddenly your £10k car can be up to £14k if your lucky. I'd rather spend thats possimore money for a 'sorted', looked after same year car, that has service history, and needs nothing doing to it.

Cossiemetro - The N reg cars were still made in 1996 like a lot of the P reg cars!
so apart from a different letter theres not a lot else! You pay for what you get when buying a TVR, all I can say is go look at many, but from what youve told me about how you like your cars to be 'mint', you wont get that with a £10k cerb im afraid. i knew you would bite liam lol

the more i look the more put off i get, i'm yet to see a mint tvr as described by its owner even after driving 100 miles i don't doubt all your cars are mint and well cared for but there is too big a margin between the same year models somebody wants 10k another wants 15k HOW CAN THERE BE SUCH A HUGE MARGIN ????

As said, £5k between old cars is nothing. Think timing chain replacement, clutch, service, tyres, paint, leather, shocks, service history, ammount of owners, dealer ship's liability to give you a warranty.
£5k's nothing.

But you're answering your own question! There is a huge margin because the cheaper ones aren't "mint" or well looked after. Go look at the higher priced private cars advertised by the people on this forum, you'll see exactly why they are more expensive (but also better value
)
