Big differences in servicing prices

Hey all
Should be picking up my 54 reg T350 from Gatwick TVR very soon
Their website gives fixed price servicing, which looks expensive but about what I was expecting (750 for a 6k service, 936 for a 12k plus 350 for the tappet adjustment). However after a quick google I came up with much more competitive pricing for servicing of the Speed Six engine - around 500-600 for the 6k and 750 for the 12k, from places like Silverstone TVR and Austec. Only problem is these are indepedants and I've got a 1yr used warranty plus the wear and tear bolt on which I'm assuming means you HAVE to use an approved TVR dealer (but I'm not sure)
But then I found Peninsular's website and they seem to do reasonable prices, and they are a proper TVR dealer afaik. Are they worth the trip?

Edit: Just clicked on the link for Offord and they will do a 12k service including tappets for £500!!

TVR Power did the 12K for £913 last December. That included a oil pressure sender (£28), check and adjust tappets (£282) and 4 shims (£13).
Not bad me thinks.
And to top it, the oil pressure sender still works! Well, it was a few hours ago..... LOL

The indies don't have quite the same financial shackles as a main dealer but be careful of spookily low fixed prices.
The TVR service schedule* says things like "check and adjust if necessary". It's common sense that checking can be a fixed price task - "adjusting if" isn't. The TVR service schedule also dictates that the car is valeted, and other pearls. Caveat emptor and all that - get a look at what is supposed to be included in a service and check it's included in the price.
Speed Six and AJP8 engines both respond well to 'interim' services at the owner's discretion for things like engine tuning and tappet adjustment - i.e. more frequently that 6K/12K.
* provided it's followed, by trained staff, using approved parts, it can be done anywhere and not affect the warranty. Thank Europe for that.

have to agree, from my experience, and from what I've learnt on this forum, there are only half a dozon or so really good places to take your P&J. It is my P&J, and I will not skimp saving a few ££, I want to be be sure the car's had the best attantion possible - I have heard via email, a few horror stories concerning the very low price services, you think you're getting value for money, well, you're not, the service is cheap because important things are not checked, no matter what your invoice may say!
Also, you can pay well over the odds and still be fleeced! Word of mouth is the best way choose, I think.

My advise would be, as you are buying the car from them, iff you can scrape through paying Gatwick tvr servicing prices, then do it as they will look after you. I can honestly say that they have always looked after my car very well and even though they cost more, with the little things they do also to the car and dont charge you for such as little adjustment to the doors, stop any rattles etc which if you had done at other places would be a couple of hour extra labour which in the end costs you the same price.
I have been to many TVR dealerships, but Gatwick for me have supplied a service above the other and are honest in their charges and good in their work. Now living abroad, I have to trust the work done during a service ten times more as I bring the car back for service and then go back. I have for the last 2 years been doing so and (touch wood) been able to go ffrom service to service without major problems.
