Thought i had one ! advice sought.....
Discussion
Thought i had found the perfect Jago, nice black 1800cc new roof, lady owner etc etc just found out its registered as a Ford Escort! aarrrgh!
What are the chances of getting it re-registered as a Jago if any?
If there is slim to no chance what do you think the value of it is as spares? She originally wanted 800 , it has new roof (350 quid) and excellent everything else, i was thinking of buying it for spares and fitting the roof on the black jago on ebay as its only 3 miles from my house......but this one is registered as a LANDROVER/JEEP , is this also going to be a problem?

There's a whole can of worms waiting to jump out here- speak to Driftwod, best thing before parting with any ££cash is to check it says Jago and 4 x 4 ight utility or similar on log book.
Spares value is how much you could break it for basically (or less if there is no one else in the vicinity!!) there are so many correct jeeps about it isn't worth messing with anything that isn't straight- there'll be 10 more to choose from next week.
Good luck

That's a fair offer and I'm sure someone will be only too happy to have a free weekend's work done
,
In fact we have one in the garden needing a bit of wiring and a head gasket. Tell me what time to meet you at Carlisle station on Friday.........
There's another one that needs trailering too.......

Since I got hooked on the idea of buying a second one for the missus , I've bought a complete Geep with correct V5 less engine/box for £80 , another partially dismantled with correct V5 , hood, doors , re-con engine , new tyres , new floor and new seats with 1/2 another as spares £60 , and finally another complete one with hardtop/doors but siezed engine and no ID , free when I collected it.
If the V5 is incorrect and there is no previous supporting documentation like MOT's calling it a Jago I would consider it as spares only and offer £100 tops , double that if it has decent useable weather gear.
There are still plenty out there , half decent , in running order , with the right paperwork and the right side of £500 to not warrant buying a potential disaster area.
I spent over 3 months looking for my first one in 2004 , looking at some proper crap along the way , as we approach the show season and better weather there is the danger of becoming desperate and clouding one's judgement.

The V5 states vehicle as LANDROVER/JEEP and UTILITY VEHICLE, if i remember correctly there were MOT's stating JAGO though.
The lack of any wet weather gear is holding me back, although the engine is very good indeed, i have considered purchasing just for spares in a worse case scenario but im sure i wont get him down to 100 quid.
The DVLA today told me that i would probably have to take the vehicle to the local office to have a look at it before correcting the V5, this will be impossible in practice, and a likely dissapointing outcome if i did.
i keep telling myself.....'be patient jamie'

I contacted you via your profile on this site Jamie...pity that the forum wouldn't take my post as some of your questions may have been answered.
Lets try again lol
The documentation on my Jeep would have come back from a routine traffic stop via PNC as a Ford Escort 4 seater 1300cc Red Saloon car (AND no reference anywhere on the V5 regarding the Jago Chassis Number)...so imagine the look that would have been on the BiB's face whn he would have been looking at Red Jago Jeep, 2 seater, pick-up, convertible, 2000cc. Basically the builder never notified Swansea, nor did any other owner between the build and me being bloomin' stupid enough to buy it without checking the documentation.
As the V5 showed that I was the proud owner of a Escort Saloon, I contacted Swansea to ask for their guidance (and bloody forgiveness as well)
The long and short of it was, they wouldn't let me drive it on the public highway, and I had to have it transported to my local DVLA establishment for inspection.
I was asked if I could provide proof when the vehicle was built, receipts, old MoT's and I couldn't as there was no paperwork handed over with the Jeep. I contacted the seller, and he was unable to help, infact he couldn't understand why I volunteered all this to the DVLA and told me I'd been silly to do so.
As far as I understood things at the time, I could have faced the situation of having my Jeep SVA'd, re-registered on a 'Q' plate or re-registered with just another registration number. As things were, my Jeep had retained the original registration number and had qualified for zero road fund license.
During all this I had contacted Jago's down at Chichester who were really helpful. With their help, and the DVLA common sense approach to my ignorance, they allowed me to retain the 'Historic Vehicle' status and issued me with a correct V5 which now shows Jago Jeep etc.,
I'll also send an e-mail to you Jamie on the address you've given.
cheers
Gerry
