Hello all
Hello all

My Meta Alarm system has finally died and so I need a replacement. The specialist garage that are servicing my car have recomended a Gemini alarm system.

Has anyone had an aftermerket alarm system fitted and what is the general opinion on which one to go for?

Also I thought that they didnt make Gemini systems anymore can somebody correct me?

Hi, I had a Clifford fitted in the summer, with remote engine start, boot release + the option to have remote window closure if I want it. It also has all Clifford standard security i.e. remote locking / wireless immobiliser etc, It has been absolutly brilliant with no problems whatsoever. The remote engine start apart from being useful starting the car in the morning to warm it up has been absolutly hilarious, you should see peoples faces in the street when the car starts with no one in it!!!!!
If you want any more info let me know
cheers

This remote start feature sounds interesting but presumably it won't work if you've left it in gear. Right?

Unless I can hit that third click on the handbrake I always leave it in gear.

Hi Richard

Thanks for the reply, how much did the system cost to install and which system is it, I was trying to find a better deal than the specialists had offered as they want £611.00 for a fitted Gemini system which is a bit pricey for such a standard alarm system, I know that i can get a TOAD system Thatcham Cat 1 supplied and fitted for £350.00 with my local alarm specialists, but remote engine start sounds very cool.

Mine was about £600 with all the extras but they start at about £400 with the remote engine start. You can basically buy any Clifford you want from the basic one to the most sophisticated and taylor it to your needs. They all have something now called G4 which means you can add anything on to them to customise them such as remote engine start, Boot Release etc If you have a laptop you can also have a data port installed with it that allows you to plug your laptop in and set it up however you want it. Also the car will not start if you have left it in gear!!!, Before you exit the car you press a button which checks you are not in gear and the foot brake is not on, this then arms the engine start and allows you to take your key out whilst leaving the engine running. When you arm the alarm it locks the doors and turns the engine off! If you use engine start it will not open the doors unless you press another button but if someone did try and steal your car the moment they go above a set amount of revs or touch the brake the engine cuts out, you can also push a button on the remote to cut the engine out if you are in range.
Sorry to go on!!!!
If you would like any more info let me know!!

cheers
Richard
