Yes I'm stuck with MS Word.

For some reason when I highlight a selection of text and type something it doesnt overwrite it as it used to. Also when I highlight text and hit backspace it doesnt delete the text. I have to use the Del key. Its begning to get on my nerves now!
Any clues?

My PC at my previous company had this problem too! And it wasn't the INS key

go to tools, options and select the edit Tab.
Is the "typing replaces selection" box ticked?

You're probably right, but it's a nice key to press anyway.

Edited 'cos I can't even pick the right keys to press in reply.
