There is an interesting article on the Motorcycle News website concerning the claimed reduction of deaths under the netting-off scheme that allows local forces to keep the money from speeding fines. It claims that the forces chosen for the pilot scheme had uncharacteristic rises in road deaths, "a statistical blip", in 1999 and so the number of deaths couldn''t fail to come down in 2000. A foregone conclusion, you might say. Full article is on http://www.motorcyclenews.com

I was listening to local radio whist driving through Lincolnshire the other week. Despite a very high profile campaign - including the signs at the sides of the roads indicating the number of deaths - deaths this year are up on last year. The police commentator claimed that the overall trend was down in deaths and serious injuries however. Not entirely convincing that their methods are working is it?

interesting one that, what will happen when the figures don't come down after these bloody things have been erected all over the country.......a pre-emptive measure to give them an excuse for more punitive legislation, like painting them orange perhaps. I can see the headlines now, 'PAINTING CAMERAS ORANGE CAUSES FATALITIES TO RISE'

Insurance claim forms will soon read: While looking at my speedo to ensure I was safely driving at 2.6mph I was blinded by the reflective glare of a gatso, and failed to see the bend in the road...........We`ve all been tangoed.....
