Hi Guys,
I have the chance to buy a 94 chim at the right money, i intend to put an LS motor in eventually, i have restored my wedge chassis over the winter as the outriggers had severe tinworm. Are these the same??

If they're not looked after Chim chassis will rot!
Providing they've been regularly treated and looked after they should go on forever!

I have a 94 chim - just passed its mot and whilst up on the ramps took the opertunity to check the chassis - spot on, no rot. Like the previous reply - if they have been looked after they should / could go on for ever?

Agree with Zippee... they're all very different and it all depends on how you care for them

As said above, it's all individual to each car. My car is a 92/93 and the whole chassis is solid, outriggers included. I've seen 98 and 99 cars with terrible outriggers maybe only a few years away from total destruction. They've obviously never been protected. Plenty of people I know who have had or have TVRs say "Oh I'll get round to it sometime, it's not that bad" I left my brand new wishbones for 5 months or so and they had surface rust on them, with a lot of the paint coming off them.

It seems the earlier cars had better chassis surface preparation before the powder coating process.
I've heard of circa '97-'98 Griffiths and Chimaeras needing front lower wishbones within 12 months of registration if used regularly including winter.
At the moment i'm replacing the lower wishbones on a '98 4.5 Chim with only 27K on the clock.
The upper ones were replaced prior to the car reaching 20K.
The powder coating on the Wedge series is the best i've seen TVR do.
