Violent assault by starter motor.

After starting the car last night I could hear a continuous whizzing noise.

I turned the engine off & low & behold, my new starter motor was whizzing around.

I turned off the "ignition override key", frantically pulled various fuses & relays out of the back, but it kept whizzing.

I rang my indie, who told me to disconnect the battery & try it again, but by the time I'd managed to find an Allen key, the starter motor had killed the battery.

I managed to get a booster battery to start the car & it was fine, plus it started OK this morning.

Anybody else had this ? what causes it ?

What with the red emergency door handle coming off in my hand & this latest escapade, I'm beggining to think this car was made for A circus act, or at the very least Frank Spencer.

Sounds like a short somewhere, but the starter is fed by some hefty current so is a bit beyond me in terms of where to look.

Yep, exactly same thing happened to me. Needed a new starter motor.

Was yours one of the Nissan variant starters?

If it helps, my emergency T Handle on my race-car came off in my hand during scrutineering. Had to fit another one before I could practice or race. That was fun.

It seems to be working OK now, I've know doubt it's trying to lull me in to a full sense of security, so it can get me when I've got no booster cables available

It's supposed to be an original tilton one, but I'm not so sure.

The old starter, that I've got here at work lasted ten years & it's got a sticker on it "Super starter by tilton", I think I'll get it refurbished asap for the inevitable.
