Almost sold my Cerb rear seat to a chap who had some really interesting things to say about cerbs ie
Put tuscan rear uprights on and also tuscan rear brake calipers to get a handbrake that works.
He is putting Aston front stoppers on his.
He is also getting his chassis dipped ie no paint on stuff that doesnt cure the rust on the inside, this is galvanized. He is drilling the chassis to stop it buckling.
He is changing the body for a typhon body!
He doesnt post much in these parts but I will speak to him at greater length at the weekend.

He is putting Aston front stoppers on his. What ones, and why? Tuscan S discs fit fine and do the job

I can understand why you would dip a chassis, but drilling it? I wasn't aware they did buckle and surely drilling it is going to further weaken it (if it is already weak)
He is changing the body for a typhon body! And he is getting this from where? And he is sure it will fit? The chassis' are totally different

Please do mate, this sounds interesting or a complete wind up.

Tuscan S brakes IMHO arent that great. I have got them on mine (needed some brakes and couldnt get anything better in a hurry).

This is the chap. So he has done something along these lines before.

Will be interesting to see how he gets on.

The galvanized chassis is a really really interesting one for me. I have never been a fan of painting the outside of the chassis as that doesnt stop the inside out rust. Landrovers are a testament to that problem. Glavanizing has always been suggested as a no no for Cerbs. So if drilling in the right places helps (or does that just allow the inside metal to be galvanized) then this could be worth watching.

Agree they aren't great, but they are half the price of Cerbera two piece discs.

That was my point, what is he planning to fit from Aston and what price are they likely to be?

There has never been a satisfactory(and cost effective)solution to a Cerby's appetite for brake discs.

There was another thread on here a while back about chassis stuff, one chap was having his galved. The holes apparently are required to stop explosions (don't ask me, all over my head). Given there is minummum size hole that needs to be drilled in place all over the chassis a few (Shpub was one) who weren't convinced it was a wise move give the size of tubing used by TVR it might make it all too weak, lotus do it but have larger chassis sections.

Will try and dig up the thread before I start spouting b*llocks.

But aren't the Tuscan rear calipers just the single piston sliding caliper Ford style units. OK, the handbrake will work as it then operates on the normal brake pads, but you're giving up kosher AP Racing double piston calipers (good enough as FRONT calipers on an Elise) for single piston sliding units? Personally I'd live with a cr@p handbrake for better back calipers in terms of actually stopping the car. if I still had a cerb that is.

Here's the thread, even features you on there as well.

Galvanising sounds great if you could be guaranteed not to feck your chassis completely, I took the pansy route when mine was done and opted for a good old fashioned powder coating.

I dont really see the point of galvanising an old rusty chassis, on the outside you can media blast the rust away but on the inside the rust is impossible to get rid of and just makes explosions during the dipping process. I doubt that any galvanising company would allow a potentially rusty tubular form into its baths anyway. Also if you do manage to galvanise over the rust then this is worse than leaving it alone!! I think the powder coating option must be better.

there is another nice chap on here by the name of "plasticman" who does things like this.
i often go past his house and he has got a Chim,Cerb,Tuscan,T350 and a very unique 'Griffcan' which is a Griffith with a Tuscan front end on it which looks very good. i beleieve he is having an AJP speed 8 motor fitted into his T350 soon and he is going to convert a Cerb into a Typhon a like!
can't wait to see his new projects when they are up and running!

This chap says that the handbrake becomes very effective and that he believes the stopping isnt compromised by the mod ie the front brakes do all the work anyway. ???
He is going to see if he can get me some of the AM DB9 brakes for my fronts - 6 pot calipers and then match some after market disks to my bells and we are away. Very cost effective mod as well.

by the way , I believe the Typhon look is being achieved by chopping off the front n rear, by replacing the rear with a T350 rear and the front by a Tuscan front. Should look stunning. The Chimp that he currently owns with the tuscan front is also very very well finished (not like the other one seen on ebay not long ago).

i agree with you on this - mine are not too good, although i have been in Bashers (long since sold) cerbera and they were excellent.

Aside: On the handbrake side of things David Batty fixed mine and now it works like a regular handbrake, holds the car on hills and everything. His position on it was the handbrake simply needs setting up properly.
