Whats the Electrical Pump in N/S Wing?

Anyone know what the chunk of rusty metal behind the lower square inspection cover in the near side wing is?
ie its in the wing in front of the wheel below the headlamp and behind the indicator.

Seems to be a pump. Its got pipes going to it and an electrical multi way connector.

Presumably its air con or oil related?

I'm worrying about how much I should be worrying about the fact that its very very rusty. (Not surprisingly sat low down at the front of the wing near the open hole below the indicator!)

It is actually bolted to the inspection cover so it could be tricky getting at it.

Not engine damaging if something fails then.

Although whilst the headlamps are out I probably ought to have a closer look at the rust and spray a bit of duck oil about to slow the inevitable.

Its easy to remove and just slides out when you remove the inner wheel arch panel. The a/c pipes are flexible and long enough for this to be done. Mine is also rusty as a very rusting thing. Cant imagine why they put it in such an exposed place.

I will be relocating mine to permit the installation of brake cooling ducts next weekend. If I find a nice out of the way spot that it will fit in I will post a picture.

Just finished battling with rusty self tappers and very rusty bolts.

The air con thing is now hanging out of the hole in the wing looking worse than ever.
A good spray with silicon grease and forget about it until winter

The inspection covers both sides were pulling away from the wing so I'm glad I decided to do the job now and not at the end of the season.

But its turned into a much bigger job than I had planned on. Was just going to replace bulbs and maybe reflectors.

Still at the end of it I'll know the covers are properly sealed and new cable and relays are driving the the brand new bulbs in the brand new reflectors. (It will be a novelty to be able to see at night!)

Just wish it had been throwing it down for the last two weekends. Instead I'm missing all this nice driving weather!
