Somewhat alarming and you have my sympathy. A call to the dealer tomorrow at 9am and/or a call to the Porsche Assistance line (number on back of tax disc holder) may add weight to getting the issue addressed. If you give the dealer a bit of a story about going away somewhere nice with other half for weekend they may lend you something off the forecourt (911????, but likely to be a Cayenne) until they get your Cayman on the road again.

thanks yex. porsche assit offered me a normal hire car, that i would have to collect, due to being the week end! so no chance of a porsche car then.they 1st sent round the rac chap to check the car. how funny is that. there assitance is not as good as land rovers,who send there own technician.
Went for a blast with my friend around beachy head this morning in his Cayman S. On the way back to london he lost first gear as well. Had to limp back in 2nd gear and even that was a bit balky (would pop out out gear once or twice once it had clicked into place). Reverse still worked but that was scant consolation. We thought it was a gearbox problem until we got home turned the car off and found we could engage the gears fine with the car off. Really took the shine off a great drive. Any news on what the probem was with your car cayman-black?
omohat,sorry to hear that. my car is being picked up tuesday morning will know more then. mine was the same , when car was hot would only go in 1st & reverse by turning engine off.have heard on cayman club forum that this problem is to do with loose flywheel bolts. also a lot of cars with this. i think there should be a recall?
I was driving my Cayman through Wales last weekend when the lower gears started to get harsh, then finally it wouldn't go into first or reverse and very hard to get into second.
Porsche collected the car, fixed it and told me that it was loose clutch cover bolts.
The guy I spoke to said that mine was the second one this weekend which they were fixing for this problem and that it was a problem with the bolts not being properly tightened at the factory.
Speaking to Porsche Customer Services they are unaware (or will not admit at this point) that there is any sort of factory related problem.
Has anyone else got Porsche to admit that this problem exists, as it seems a little more than a coincidence that so many people have had exactly the same fault?

The other halfs boxster S went in with a few hundred miles on the clock for what sound the same. 1st & 2nd not engaging easily.
There was another Boxster, with less than 200 miles on it, just coming in on a flat-back whilst I dropped ours off.
Assume boxster & cayman are pretty much same mechanically ?
