I'm buggered if I can work it out after doing searches on here.

Can anyone give me the definitive answer?

Thanks awfully, gents.

As far as I know, its a straight through exhaust but they pad around the pipe with something??? which gives the same throaty noise of the straight thru but gives it a better sound due to the resonance, Im told.............?

they certainly do! - my brother had one intended as a centre-section fitted as a tailpipe on an old Polo Coupe he used to use for road rallying (as well as being an everyday car). At the end of a stage you could usually hear him coming from about 2-3 miles away

The down side was that at that time it was his only car and a journey from London back to Somerset down the M3/A303 gave us both a massive head ache to the point of felling sick. It certainly pepped up the standard 1300cc VW noise though
