my last nerdy topic for a while (with pictures!)
Discussion
Awake at 07:00 this morning like a kid on christmas day, not long to wait as the postman came at 08:30 with a nice big box (and another package from Amazon with a present for Abby, to keep her distracted whilst I hide the invoice for the camera gear
).
So, the last pictures I'll probably ever take with my trusty D70.
Lots of Boxes!
The new boy:
First impressions of the D200 - the battery from the D70 wont fit, so I can't play properly. It feels too big in my hand compared to the D70 but I'm sure I'll get used to that.
Everything is bigger, and all the controls seem to have changed slightly, meaning I have to read the bloody manual. Build quality - I always thought my D70 was built like a tank, so wasn't expecting much more from the D200 - It seems maybe a tiny bit more rugged, but I'm no expert so can't see any substantial improvements. The viewfinder seems huge compared to the D70, which is a big plus.
Now onto the lenses. I thought the 28-70 would be big and heavy but I really wasn't prepared, it's huge.
Sigma 10-20 on the left, Nikon 28-70 middle, Nikon 18-70 on the right for reference:
On the camera, it's HUGE!
Even the case is a work of art:
Now I just need to wait for the battery to charge and the real fun can commence. Off out at 11:00 to puppy training classes with my sister and her neurotic pooch, hoping to get some good ones with the 10-20 then.
A big thanks to everyone who gave advice, and apologies for the raft of techy posts I've been the source of lately. Back to taking pictures now!
edit:
Snuck the 10-20 onto the D70 for a quick test - proper wide angle at last!
I was expecting chromatic aberration at the edges of the frame but I can't se any
