If the two wires ( white/red and white/green ) were to have melted together and gone to earth ( on hot manifold ) what would happen?
The engine was running great prior to this. Would it cause the starter motor go t**s up or the ECU. I have checked all the wiring, components etc and all seem OK.
Still having the problem of not starting. If you leave it in the crank position it runs, but as soon as you release ignition switch to run it stops. But something tells me it cant be the ECU only the crank sequence. Just cant put my grubby mits on it yet! Have sub'd the airflow meter and ignition switch but still the same. Have checked the PS module/main/fuel relays and they seem fine.

Have you got a ballast resistor on your coil Mark? Could be that one of those is the ballast feed. If it got shorted maybe there's no 12v to the resistor when you release the key...

Is the ignition switch itself still ok? Perhaps it could have an internal problem. Think that I read something about it on the forum before (but a long time ago).

Was one of the wires that got melted the fuel pump contact on the AFM? Fuel pump works when cranking or when this contact is made. (Dickymint type diagnosis = always look at last thing touched after known good state).

Run a temporary test wire from the positive battery terminal directly to the coil and then see if the car continues to run when you release the key from starter mode.

Ian - Have got a ballast thingy, will test in the morning. Sub'd the ignition switch-no difference. Dicky - The two wires are from the starter motor. The white/red ( heavy cable )goes to the ignition switch and the white/green ( normal cable ) goes to the coil. Have continuity tested these back and they are OK. Seems like I will have to get another set of relays to rule these out as I think something is not switching over from crank to run.
