D200 at Doggy club!
Discussion
Apparently dogs benefit from a bit of socialising, and I was asked if I'd take some pictures.
So how did the D200 perform the first time it was used in anger? I think it's hard to be objective when you've spent the best part of £3000 on kit, but I'll do my best.
The D200 + 28-70 f/2.8 combo feels utterly fantastic, and I'm ecstatic with my purchase, the clarity and sharpness of the images is such a massive leap from my D70+18-70, as is the speed of the AF, it seems like you just think about it and it's already focused. ISO100 seems to mean less visible noise even than the IS0200 that the D70 went down to - I guess I know what you canon boys have been going on about now!
Colours seem brighter and more vivid, metering seems more reliable, the camera seems to get the exposure and white balance correct. I found myself out of habit going to make changes in PS that would have been required with the D70, only to find that the image was over-exposed and over-sharpened as a result.
Bending down with £1200 of lens at dog nose height is a little disconcerting when it's the first time you've used it! Muddy doggy noses fortunately were kept at bay by the huge lens hood that this comes with! Had a lot of fun trying to find AF-C mode in the menu only to realise it's moved to a switch on the camera body.
Anyway, some pics! Some of these are a tad over-sharpened, mainly because the action scripts I use in PS CS are based on D70 output, and now I need to update them all.
And finally, a 100% crop of the last picture, no changes just straight from camera - that's what I call sharp, finally a camera that produces the results I've been expecting all along!

I know they're only playing, but this guy actually looks like he's about to take a chunk out of the others dogs leg!
These two are brother and sister. Believe it or not the one on the right is the tough boy (Bailey), whilst Simba on the left is utterly lovely.
Wilf (my sisters mutt, and my often time friend) has to stay in the car whilst Bailey is out, otherwise we might see a lot of blood and fur flying. Poor old Wilf, being a pedigree Staffie doesn't save him from a life of neurotic panic, he's a troubled soul and no mistake.
Woof!
