tyre temperatures on track days

I went through a set of Michelin Pilot Sports in barely more than 1 day at Spa with my GT3. The car has negative camber of 2.5 degress, set up by Menthey themselves. Pressure has always been around 2.1 bar all round. I noticed though what I thought were relatively high temperatures for the tyres : 65 degrees C front and some 50 degrees C rear. By the end of the afternoon rubber was just peeling off. My dealer - who is knowledgeable about such matters but still a salesman... - tells me Pilot Sports cannot deal with such high temperatures, whilst Sport Cups can go as high as 85 degrees C without losing adherence. According to him Pilot Sports get too hot during heavy track work and start to shred.

Does anybody have views whether this is true ?

I would say that the simple answer is yes, you need Cups or something similar, e.g. Pirelli Corsa etc. The GT3 is quite a heavy car, but powerful with great cornering potential. It is bound to roast normal road tyres quickly on track I would have said (unless it's raining).

Reg the Corsas do you think the Corsa system will work out well?!? Understand Cups/Corsas vs. normal tyres but not sure about Corsa System...
