I have heard that some M Series TVR's were fitted with Rover V8 engines for export to the Middle east during the early 1970's. Does anyone have any details about the specifications of the cars and the numbers produced? Any details appreciated. Thnaks.

A V8 M series was never a production model, however there were some Rover V8 M series cars that received some factory assistance in conversion. (ie some employees helped out). Also the Canadian Importer made some V8 cars with a Ford powerplant

Hope that helps

davidy,
Thnaks for the info. Do you know how many were made in the factory, when and where they were destined for?

They were not 'made' in the factory, just had factory help in putting them together

The Canadian TVR importer, John Wadman, built a total of 10 "5000M" cars, a couple of which were Taimars, and one or two 3000S but the rest were the coupes. The ones I have seen were very nicely done!

Guys, Thanks for your replies and information. In addition to the cars built for the Candian market, does anyone know of any others for the Middle East etc and what specification they were? Thanks.

'All' TVR models . . .

Interesting page, and well done to those (or him/her) that took the time to put it together.
Just one minor criticism though, what is a 3000M Turbo DHC ? The 3000S Turbo would perhaps fit this description, but it is listed separately.

Paul.

PS. Also just noticed that the capacity of the Essex V6 and the Cologne V6 seems to have been interchanged. The Essex should be 2994 cc and the 2.8 Cologne in the early Tasmins should be 2792 cc
There are one or two other errors, but I don't want to appear too picky.

Think loads have been done outside of the factory - they SHOULD have done it RV8 must be alot lighter than the all iron Essex - nice noise and hard to get good power!.

Mate has and older Grantura with a 3.5 RV8 in it on just cherry bombs - great but he is now putting an all steel TR6 race lump into it!! - serious go - even if a bit heaviers (can then race it or track it).

If I still had my 3000M I'd have a 4.6 RV8 or an LS1 in there (LS6 propably a bit much!) and get some monster front brakes and convert rears to discs.
