I currently drive a 03 S2000, also have a 04 Grand Cherokee as well which I'm barely using so I'm thinking of chopping them both in and getting somethibng wiht a touch more power and that still handles like a proper car - the Cayman seems to be ticking the boxes for me.
Now, I'm in Dubai and the Cayman starts to look good value when the base list price I will pay is.... wait for it..... AED 199,999 = £30,753
Just got back from the local Porsche dealership and got all the brochures, option list (which goes on forever), had a good fiddle inside and mooched about.
It looks awesome in the Artic Silver on the 19" SportDesign rims. The one I looked at had the Terracotta interior whereas I'd probably go for the sand biege interior.
Only option I can think I'd want are the 19" rims, PASM, short shift for the gearbox, Sports Crono pack, perhaps the adaptive sports seats if not the standard sports seats. I'd also get park assist as the rear vision isn't great, the bi-xenon lights, Bose sound system and full leather interior.
I can't be fussed with all the other poxy extras they charge a fortune for - I want to drive the bloody thing and it will get tracked.
So the list is totting up to - AED 33,920 = £5,220
So even with all those extras it still only comes to £35,971 - I think that's quite good value all things considered.
Only problem is the 6 month wait - anyway, going for a test drive tomorrow.
Are there any other options that should be considered as vital for resale?

Interestingly I also had an 03 S2000 and a Jeep Cherokee - and now a Cayman.
I've been in the fortunate (or unfortunate) position of comparing the options on my car with options on a car without them, and with others. Was going to write up something on my site, but haven't got round to it yet.
Goes something like this:
Rear wiper = Mine has, loaner hasn't. Is essential for early morning reversing!
Xeon lights = mine has, loaner hasn't. MASSIVE difference. Take the Xeons!
Tiptronic = mine hasn't, loaner has. Bloody awful. Hate it hate it hate it
19" wheels = mine has, loaner has standard. The standard ones look better than I thought, but the 19s definitely fill the arch better. Also worth noting they come with not only bigger, but better rubber. There is a noticable difference between the two options - the standard is "nicer" around town, where the 19s make the car feel more planted whilst hooning, but a bit cumbersome around town.
PCM / Sat Nav = mine hasn't, loaner has. This is such a rubbish version of SatNav and I was very disappointed. The directions are inefficient, the interface tricky to use, the planning options limited, difficult to view whilst on the move and, (this is what bugs me the most) difficult to find an address. I did some driving around on Friday and needed to use my TomTom to find an address as I couldn't find it in this £2,300 POS! (And for those who have it, try and navigate to 43 High Street, Eltham. I'll be interested in knowing what the answer is!) YUCH!

Think thats about it. I don't think you're really going to go too far wrong. I'd advise getting to a dealer and having a look at the options in detail.
However for the money you can get them for, you're not going to go wrong!

If I had just £1,000 for options on the car, I'd chose this one.
It's that good.

The only thing I'm slightly doubtfull about is the full leather but I've seen on other forums that it makes a massive difference for the sand beige colour scheme that isn't as important on the others. I actually like some of the darker interiors but during the summer here, you need it to be as light as poss - hence why going for Silver again as well as I'd much prefer the Basalt Black.
Edit: Oh and anyone who's been in Dubai will realise how pointless the Satnav/PCM package would be.

One other option I forgot to mention was the thicker 3spoke sports steering wheel.
I noticed immediately when I sat in the showroom car that it felt a bit skinny (it was the multi-function doodah).
Also, I had to raise the seat up a fair bit - I'm assuming that was just because it comes from the factory at the lowest setting.
Pikey - I'd be interested in you views on the difference between the Cayman and the S2K. Do you keep the PSM on all the time after being used to no nanny aids in the S?

Comparison to the S2000, very difficult really as they're different cars so it's not fair. However, assuming the S2000 is good value at £28,500, the Cayman is then exceptionally good value at £50,000! One of the things that determined the options was the S2000 as I had to at least match it. That included 'sports seats', 'full leather', 'sports steering wheel', 'xeon headlights', which as you know are all standard on the S2k, but are a heafty whack on the Cayman... but worth it. I did ask for a limited slip diff too, but sadly its not an option!
The whole car is totally different - from the way the doors shut to the way the car starts, purrs, and makes you feel. The S2000 feels like a fantastic car, but made to a budget, the Cayman feels a much higher quality car and you are left in no doubt you're in something special. As for driving, its quite scary... as in the Cayman's road holding abilities (assuming PASM & 19" wheels!) are utterly, utterly incredible. The S2000 is fun, and many reviewers comment on its excellent handling, but the Cayman seems to be in a different league.
The thing is I absolutely love the S2000, would recommend it to anyone and will probably have another some time in the future, BUT it's not a Porsche. Put heritage, badges, and image aside and just concentrate on what the car gives you... and it doesn't compare. It's so much more refined as both a quality car and a sports car.
