To Change To Tamora . . .

Hi there people, been reading over the last few days postings about the TVR Tamora.
I currently have a BMW 330Ci Spt Conv. Auto, with nav, heated seats, although i love the Tamora!
Im in a dilema whether to get one!!!
Is the clutch extremely heavy? i will be using it everyday although it will only be travelling 2 miles to get to work/gym? Does the roof leak in them? Will i miss the creature comforts? Can you drive one easier/calmly? Are they loud at normal motorway speeds (70mph)? (as it will do ocasional long trips)
In a real dilema and the insurance is a fair chunk more is it all worth it??

Its a completely different animal and I would suggest you take one out for a test drive.Any dealer would be very happy to let you test one properly.There are a lot of happy Tam owners about who I am sure will give you good advice.There are also a few people with axes to grind so do check the profiles of those who reply.
The Tamora is a very exciting charismatic car and if you like driving hard you will love it....and thats from a T350 owner

Clutch is actually really light. Perfectly weighted.
Have you got an insurance quotation? Try one of the TVR specialists like A Manning, Sunninghill (Bagshot) or Peart - you should be paying less for a TIV (unless you got a quote for a £40k one - hikes the premium due to the new for old 1st year policy and value of car).
Take one for a spin. Then you'll decide whether to get one very quickly

Cheers for the advice going to test drive one this coming saturday i think being 6ft i think there's going to be an issue with space as well which concerns me. I'll try those insurers thanks but having a claim doesn't help, think i'll have to stay with my current insurer.

That shouldn't be an issue - one of my mates is 6'4" and he's had no trouble. You can change the position of the pedal box and some people have thinner/thicker seat's too I think.
I used to have a 325 Manual Sport Conv. The clutch is fine on the Tam - even lighter than the BMW. The TVR will be nothing like as luxurious as the BMW however - it's a very raw car in comparison. It can leak, it's much more noisy, its not as solidly built and not so good for such short journies as its take 5-10 mins to get the engine up to temparature.
On the whole though if I had to choose, the TVR would win everytime.

The best summary i've had, i think i'll just wait and see what it drives like and then go from there. It should still be alright for the short journeys shouldn't it? It wont be driven hard for most of its time, i always wait a couple of minutes before moving it anyway.
I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be any worse for short journeys than any other car. Don't forget that the oil won't be up to temperature so if you like to use your right foot you'll be hurting the engine.
I'm in a similar situation - until recently I lived 2 miles from the office but I almost always took the long way round... in the morning to put a smile on my face before I started and again in the evening to relax and forget about work.
The downsides of it being your only car are:
* It's low - OK for most speed bumps if you take it slow, but there are some I wouldn't risk.
* Poor turning circle means it can be tricky in multi-storey car parks.
* You might be unwilling to leave it in some neighbourhoods.
I think I've done my duty and added some negatives - now go and see if driving one cancels them all out!

You can put the roof up without getting out when it starts to rain really heavily, but it did take ages. I'm sure the Tam is quicker.
Space for stuff on the back seats, but I'm not sure the boot is any bigger.

Lovely thanks for the comparison do you think the 330 was a lot more relaxed on a long run? Is the tam quite tame/easy going when you want it to be? (on long journeys, need i say it quite quiet?) ha ha
Is the fuel consumption relaly bad just doing short journeys? the 330 i usually get about 23-24mpg?

Not really.
I did about 3.5 hours non stop and when I got out I thought it would be better but it wasn't really. The cruise control is ok, but I find the Tam seats really comfortable. I'd prefer to save the weight.
I did 3200 miles in two weeks around the Alps last summer and every single day I would have happily turned around and done it again!
Biggest difference was in the pace. 2/3rds the power and an extra 2/3 of a ton really shows.
The SMG was good on the twisty roads but never quite seemed to do what I wanted. I guess if you had longer with it it would be better. Ride was also a lot harsher in the BM which may just be the run flats.
