Happy easter to you all.

I have just unwrapped my new clutch slave cylinder which I bought from a TVR franchise and it is pitted and has a dull black finish, not aluminium like at all.

The one which I took out of the car is shiny (came from a TVR franchise also) and alloy looking.

Have I been sold a pup? Do they normally arrive like this and require some kind of honing?

Any thoughts?

Have a good easter.

can you post a piccie. did it come built up with seals already in? is the part that the seals run on shiny or pitted also?

the slave cyls have always been shiny stainless before, but tvr could have changed how they do stuff, but a piccie will show us what you mean a bit better anyway.

I called TVR today who said that the new 'black' finish is a coating designed to stop the slave cylinder from sticking in the bore. Watch this space for some pictures.

The guy I spoke to said to clean it up with some Scotchbrite and give it a go!

I have also discovered that I have the later clutch and flywheel. So now I have the later slave cylinder I am going to have the bellhousing machined to suit.

I will let you know I how I get on.

I'm getting there!

Wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. Take it from me you don't touch a cylinder bore unless you have a machine tool and strangely, a cylinder bore attached to it.

I suspect although just guessing that its a recon job, any serial numbers on it you could verify with a maker?

Call me suspicious sid but just because it's a TVR part doesn't mean it couldn't be reconditioned.

Why don't they use this magical lining in brake cylinders, other slaves. Even if you try to improve it which you shouldn't need to with a 'new' part, how is the hone you use gonna affect the lining?

Not sure where you go with this, but all I'd say is that a rubber seal on a pitted surface is gonna last about as long as it takes for me to type this sentence

Couldn't smell fishiery if it was wrapped in a cod and chips.
