hi all. finally got my car back last friday but didn't get a chance to give it a proper wash and looking over until today. really not happy with the quality of work. Range of problems ranging from really dirty carpets to the paint work not upto standard. still visible scratches from previous damage as well as some new ones where possibly someones parked it in the bodyshop too close to another car or caught it with something. Bonnet seems to have got badly stone chipped from one 20 careful mile journey home, sections in the scoop of the bonnet also doesn't even seem to be painted! I'm thinking that maybe the paint hasn't been applied properly to stone chip so easily, is this possible? Can't think of anything other than shoddy workmanship to explain the scratches and missing paint
I couldn't really see any of this damage when i picked the car up. Its only now when i've washed it have i made a list of faults. Any advice on how i approach the insurance company? anyone had problems with repairs before and how did you get it resolved?
To make matters potentially worse the bodywork was undertaken by my dealer that recently went bust!!

My tvr is an amazing machine but this has really annoyed me. Gonna call the insurance on tuesday. All help really appreciated.

are you sure the bodywork was done by the dealer, and not farmed out to a local bodyshop?

Because the paint takes time to harden up properly, you can damage fresh paint with your finger nail

Does "soft" paint chip more easily than hard? I wouldn't have thought so. How long does paint take to harden?

Well ok maybe it is not "chipping" as such but it will get damaged very easy from stones as they will dig in rather than bounce off, it can take weeks for paint to properly cure .

Thought that was why the car was supposed to be baked in a warm room when having bodywork resprayed.

Quite, a spray and bake should have hardened off acrylic paint I would have thought.
Not to mention the fact that its usual to mop the car over once the paint/laquer has gone off so the finish is normally hard enough to take that sort of punishment.

Was the car resprayed as a result of an accident? If so, take it up with your insurance company & tell them youre not happy - been there, done that, & after a bit of a fight I got the respray resprayed!

Its my understanding that new paint does stay 'soft' for a while - whatever you do, dont try to polish out any scratches for at least a month.

Used Chris Neil although i need to make it clear that they did not do the bodywork. They seem to be fine but i'm not sure where i will get the car serviced now hl gorner's gone. Not much choice really now in Greater Manchester.

Will speak with insurance company in the morning. Its clear to anyone that the repairs are not at all up to scratch. Oh well

Ian @ Middlewich is just round the corner from Chris Neils.

A lot of guys from the North West (including me) and several other from Yorkshire, plus one nutcase comes up from Essex to Ians.

He also has a fantastic guy who does bodywork/paint repairs. In fact he will be doing my repai/respray.

Hi

my paintwork was also damaged by that same dealer that recently went bust. I spotted a little damage when I collected the car from them but they denied anything had happened. Funny because they happened to be working on that exact area of the car! Coincidence...?

I didn't discover the full extent of the damage until sometime later when I was giving the bonnet a good clean and wax. I didn't do anything about it. Couldn't face going back to that dealer again.

I found them to be massively incompetent. I ended up fixing many of the cars problems myself after their repeated attempts failed. Some of their work was so shoddy. There are still problems but I'm just living with them otherwise the car would never be on the road.

But hey! the factory is now doing servicing again so maybe things are looking up in the North/West.
