Blown main ignition fuse

Hi all,
Out enjoying the autumn sun..on one of my favourite windy roads...have a good drive up.. stopped for 20 mins to watch the waves..however when I tried to start my 96 Grff, no electrics.
NRMA (our equivalent of the RAC) helped with the troubleshooting.. the 25A main ignition fuse was blown. Replaced it, ignition lights/fans (manual override), horn etc now worked.. but as soon as I turned the key to start.. blown fuse. Did this cycle a few more times whilst doing some more troubleshooting... very repetitive. Anyway, replaced the fuse again, put +12v to the starter solenoid terminal.. all started and home I drove.
At home, pulled the ignition switch out, check all wiring, reset the connector to the starter solenoid.. and it then started OK... problem vanished.
Had the car 12 months.. no problems at all until this one..
