question about oil stats?

I have just been flushing out the all the oil lines, cooler and accusump.

The oil stat is the standard in line Mocal jobbie which fits between the sandwich plate and oil cooler. I'm not sure if it works though. I can see straight through it! Surely it should be in the closed position at the moment? Looks like I might have to get a new one to be on the safe side.

Also can anyone confirm which is the flow from the sandwich plate. I just need to double check I have it right!!

That sound alright Gary. That is how it should be, got me when I looked at it the first time. I read the instruction sheet a few times, but it basically relies on the oil cooler oil being more viscous, ie high resistance or something than the stuff coming from the engine, until it reachs ~80DegC. Don't panic!

if you have the sandwich plate off the engine you can tell by looking at how the holes are plumbed.

The oil that is to pass thru the filter should flow from the outside to the inside of the filter.

Of course, you could always crank your engine (or just the pump) over by hand and see which one gushes...

Pete, that makes sense, cheers. That makes the right hand (furthest from engine) the flow and the left hand, the return, where it drops through the outside of the filter and pumped up the middle back to the engine
