Tuscan. How much for a good one.

Looks like a nice Chimaera you have there. I went from a Chimaera to a Tuscan (late 2002) just over 1 year ago. No regrets - car runs superbly - now has 18k on the clock, doesn't use any oil to speak of, starts first time/every time (use Accumate). Local TVR dealer says engine is fine.
IMHO - reckon the cause of most Speed 6 engine problems is the failure by drivers to warm up the engine properly.
If you want a further chat about the change from Chimaera to Tuscan, send a message to the email address on my profile with your phone number and I would be pleased to have a chat and give you a few pointers.
Prices vary tremendously - I took the "sensible" option and bought from a main dealer and checked out everything with the previous owner. Had a 1 year warranty and didn't use it once (did 4000 miles). Recall "Big Al" took the same route and has had no engine problems on a similar mileage to me. Many people have bought privately at a big saving but some have handed back the savings made in repair bills.
If buying privately, it is imperative to get it checked out by a TVR expert such as Rob Ingleby, James Aggar etc etc.

Dav,
Much like b2tus I went from a V8 (griff 500) into a Tuscan. Got myself a Jul 03 3.6l from a main dealer with year warranty. Although like b2tus I've not had to use that warranty in the past year - bar a new speedo sensor!
3.6l was designed and introduced after the 4l and has perceived better reliability due to lower tolerence levels on parts but am sure 4l owners would argue this!! Am fastiduos about warming up before stretching and would never thrash it or push the upper rev limits on a rolling road etc.
Ultimately there are quite a few out there to look at but dealer with warranty and FSH seems to be the way forward for new owners. Find it a much more rewarding car to drive and run than the Griff...

Dealer - use a dealer
As much as you can afford for a new as you can get
Warranty a must
Gatwick TVR suppied mine (included various extras such as Roadside assistance - not that i will need it) they provided a good service !
Go for it - its a purchase from the Heart rather than the head !!!
