Don't you just hate Newbies !
Discussion
Hi Guys - I fell across a Jago on ebay, she looked good and cheap which then lead me to here. Sunsequently I've found two more Jago's for sale, again, good lokers and at the right price. Unfortunately, both are only 2 wheel drive and I require a 4x4. So, may I ask, do they come 4x4 or not? If so, has anyone got one for sale. I'm looking for a nice clean example. Cash waiting etc. If not, any pointers on the best place to find second hand ones as I really like to look of them and the adabtability. Cheers, Graeme
Hi Graeme....don't hate newbies...love 'em to bits
we've all been there once and the beauty of this forum and the JOC site is to help people out and try to make sure you don't fall in the traps that some of us have done in the past.
When going after a Jeep...Caeveat Emptor...not because it's a Jeep of course, that's applicable to anything you want to buy.
My own experience is well documented previously. On the V5C, make sure the documentation is correct.
D1 Make..........It must show that it's a Jago Jeep (or Geep or Sandero)
D3 Body Type.....Light 4x4 Utility
D4 Wheelplan.....2-Axle-Rigid Body
E Vin/Chassis/Frame No. JEE71084 (example) (Jago Chassis No. usually found stamped on top of front suspension strut)
and of course, engine number/size registration no. colour must all be correct.
Take it from me 'cos I'm the daft bugger who bought my latest Jeep on trust. I was then left with the expense and hassle of having my Jeep inspected by my local DVLA Inspector. If not for the help of Jago Industries and me being honest by admitting my mistake to the DVLA (who was very fair to me in all this) I may well have had to have my Jeep SVA'd or re-registered and as a consequence lose my Historic Vehicle status (it's a 1970 donor vehicle).
Also, if I'd not said anything to the DVLA (according to the sellor I should have remained quiet) I would have faced problems at the next MoT time, and can you imagine the look on some Traffic Cop's face if he pulled me....PNC comes back as a 1970 Ford Escort, Four door, 1300cc Red Saloon (My Jeep has a 2litre Pinto)
Regarding searching for a suitable Jeep, check your local Auto Trader (I see you're up in Manchester) check out the 'for sale' section in the Transmissions link (get that from the sticky at the top of the page) post on the Newbie Section of the JOC site...the more you put the word around the better chance you have of finding something.
Best of luck with your search and hope you enjoy your Jeep as and when it comes along
Cheers

ps I've got a feeling that the Jago's that come up for sale on e-bay show that they're 4x4's....I think I'm right in saying that it's due to e-bays programming??? not the sellor trying to sell something that isn't!! although I stand to be corrected of course.
