Not selling as well as hopedTVR has confirmed the rumours that have swirled around the PistonHeads forums and revealed that, following a hard winter, it has been forced to lay some workers off. This is a temporary move to tide the company over, according to spokesman Ian Law.

He couldn't yet say how many workers were involved. More details will become clear in the next few days following the conclusion of discussions with workers and unions, which are expected to conclude by Monday.
For the future, however, TVR remains optimistic that its plans to expand in the Middle and Far East, will help to pull it out of the problems created by slow domestic demand. In addition, Law reckoned that we're in for some big surprises at the British Motor Show in July.
We'll bring you more news when we get it.

Cut backs for streamlining and to free up funds for future development is the only way forward in todays business climate.....especially if you're feeling the pinch.
I'd like to look at this positivly and hope that all this is part of a long term plan to bring TVR into the 21st century. They already have the the quality right(ish), now the're reducing overheads, and next we'll hopefully see them work hard to shake off the reliability stigma still attached to them.
I sympathise with the folk who have been laid off but from the companies perspective it's better than failure.

But why? They won't be laying off workers with key or irreplaceable skills - those guys/ladies will be looked after.
For others with skills that can more easily be ramped up and down surely you wouldn't suggest that he employ people simply to leave them idle? How soul destroying would that be!
I suspect that however wealthy TVRs owner may be that the Company will be considered a profit centre in its own right and will need to balance its books.
I'd much rather TVR was efficiently managed and went on to last another fifty years than it end up being closed as unprofitable due to mismanagement.
Let us hope the workers find decent alternative employment a.s.ap., of course! Best of luck to all both leaving and staying at TVR.
