Hi,

I know you post on here so thought i would drop a line to say that I saw you competing at Snetterton on Monday in the Michelin Porsche open and the invitational race (it was more like a demonstration run though with so few cars). I was wondering why you had to start from the back of the grid as you were obviously quicker than most our there. Also during the race to begin with you were fairly flying through the field but you seemed to give up after a while, did you think you had no chance of catching your co-driver in Britcar Pete who was absolutely flying or did the car develop a problem. Anyway it was good to see some good open GT racing, the standard of racing during the whole event was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I hope to see you when the Britcar comes back to Snetterton in May.

Whilst Henry is in fact God in disguise (and a very good disguise it is too) he still has to abide by the rules of the Porsche Open. So where the race is the second of a double header the grid is determined by the result of the first. Since H (or G as we know him) did not compete in race one, he started from the back of the grid in race two. For a race report see:

www.msdpcgb.co.uk/pages/open06/open06round1result.asp

With regards to H's performance the true story can be seen by looking at the lap chart for race two in the PDF at the address below:

www.msttiming.com/meeting.asp?event=61564&source=cscc2006&eventtype=csccclub

Pete is very quick and has a better car than Henry so the fastest lap gap of two seconds is probably about right, the rest is down to grid position, traffic and, as always, a little luck.

Aaaah I see, I was only up there on the Monday, and I didn't realise that there had been a previous round on the Sunday. I just thought there was a Porsche club round on Sunday. My mistake. Congratulations to the Porsche club as the two races I saw on Monday from you were excellent.

Just found the thread.

Cheeky sod Mr A, and it`s Mr God to you! As has been said I wasn`t there on Sunday so had to start from the back of the grid. Given I was only there for fun that was fine. I was asked to let the race settle down for a couple of corners before going through the pack so as not to ruin anyone`s race.

Things were going fine and then it started to rain, in places it was quite heavy and slick tyres are not ideal rubber. Initially I drove through it but once the car started to move around, (I did have a small spin coming out of the Esses in 2nd gear !), I didn`t think there was much point in risking the car. Snetterton has some quite fast corners, particularly Corum and if you come off you`ll do a fair amount of damage. Given I had lost 20 or 30 seconds at the start there wasn`t much to race for and so I just brought the car home. It was a shame that it rained when it did, I was ideally hoping for more rain a few minutes earlier so that I could have run wet tyres and started from the pit lane (given I was at the back of the field I wouldn`t have lost any places. Then it would have been fun.

Pete`s car is quite a bit up on power from the one we race in Britcar and in fact we are just about to re-build the Britcar engine so it is very tired at the moment. Snetterton is a real power circuit with 2 massive straights. The other GT3`s left me for dead on the back straight as the car was almost grinding to a halt in 5th gear, I had to rely on the section from the Esses to Russell to make up ground.

Pete is a man on a mission this year in the Open, we are racing together at Silverstone in his car in the 1 hour 2 driver Open event which will be fun.

As you say the second race was just a run out, I had used the qualifying session to enter the Open race so thought I might as well finish the day off. That said a couple of the cars were very quick in a straight line. David Edwards` gorgeous Camero matched me pound for pound along the straight but hadn`t got the brakes or cornering to match, the same was true of the XJS in qualifying. As I said in the Post-race interview a victory for technology ! Team mate Mark Campbell was giving the XJS a good run for it`s money, giving away a huge power advantage he was working his 911 well through the corners. I sat behind them for half a lap so as not to spoil their battle and it was great to see the old 911 squirming around.

A great way to spend a bank holiday Monday.

Actually not going to be at Snetterton as Pete and I are trying to further his Porsche Open campaign in the 2 driver race at Silverstone that weekend. Should be there for the rest of the rounds though.

Thats jolly good news, you won't get in my way then! We will, of course, miss you both at Snetterton, despite your taste in wine. Hope you do the business at Silverstone for Pete, good luck.

P.S. Why are corresponding like this and not talking on the telephone?
