Advice needed please......

After the previous good responses, I thought I'd ask a few more questions

Thinking of buying my first TVR, which is going to be a Cerbera and have been looking around various sites trying to get a good idea of what i'm letting myself in for.

The car will be used everyday (although i do have a motorbike to the inevitable day that it won't start).

I've got a budget of £15k to £18k and I'm trying to decide whether I should buy something along the lines of a 1999 Speed Six or a slightly earlier model V8.

I'm also trying to decide if buying privately is a wise idea. Having checked out 3rd party warranties, they don't look like great value for money.

Obviously FTVRSH is a must, but I'm guessing that mileage is slightly less relevant if the engine has been rebuilt at some point during its life......

Go for a V8, for that sort of budget you'll proabably get a better 4.2 than a 4.5 and there's not much of a performance difference anyway. Unless the 4.5 has been re-mapped....

Hi! Scrooloose. I'v the same prob. I want to keep it below 20k, and there doesnt seem much in the trade for below 18. As a newbee id like to buy from a reputable dealer but...?
I agree with Matt the 4.2 seems the best value.
Maybe i'll get shot down for this but it doesnt look as though cerbs are selling????? Been watching the classifieds and adds for a month now and very few are being shifted. Guys, Is this normal ?

Put Pink in any other car, and your in trouble, but It's a Cerbera, a big bad, loud, butch car - who cares if its a Pink interior, it will look cool.

Do you know what you are looking for when you view a Cerb? If not, then take someone along who does. Otherwise buy from a dealer and pay approx £2/3k more. Warranties are like anything else, claim on them and they will try their damnedest not to pay out. Obviously FTVRSH is a must, but I'm guessing that mileage is slightly less relevant if the engine has been rebuilt at some point during its life...... Full TVRSH is not necessarily a good thing. A well known Indy stamp is often better in TVR circles. IMHO FTVRSH is not a selling/bargaining point on a Tiv purchase. Engine rebuild? Bringer/scroolose. I have a dark red 4.2 cerb in your price range with full service history 24000miles, engine rebuild an new gearbox (can mail pics etc). I have only had the cerb 2 months and have spent £3500 on major service, wax oil cahsis, new tyres, alpine sound system etc....etc. Anyway, there is a large chance I will be made redundant next week... If this happens the cerb will very reluctantly have to go. Mail me at [e-mail] if you want to take 1st look. Lets hope I dont need to sell and get to spend the whole planned year in the car be4 the kids arrive!!
