I currently use a MiniDV cam (Sony DCR-TRV16E) and would like to edit and burn to DVD high quality (ie. DVD quality) edited video footage. I have a Radeon 9700 vid card only and have messed around with WinXP editing which writes only poor quality MPG etc. I assume I require a seperate video editing card. Is that correct and does anyone have any advise as to an "entry level" type card ?

If your talking about capturing the video in the first place then you need a firewire card really (assuming your miniDV has a firewire/IE1394 interface)

If your talking about getting an edited project to MPEG so it can be burned onto DVD, it's more to do with what software your using really, also what resolution your footage was captured in at, your PC processing power and the rate you can get data off your hard drives.

Adobe Premiere Pro isn't a bad editing program, takes a little learning though.

A decent GFX card will help with real-time effect rendering while your editing the project but won't affect the final outcome of a project.

Edited to say: basically your 9700 should be fine!

You shouldn't need to 'capture' the video, you should be able to drag it straight off the camera, then as above, it's all just software.

It's post's like this that remind me that Apple really do the high end home user out of the box bit so much better.

As said, your vid card is only there to render your display, shouldnt have anything to do with (digital)capture or composition/burining.
