Which Canon? Very Quick Question
Discussion
I know there is never an 'easy' answer, but I just want some advice...
I am looking at getting my first SLR camera and haven't a clue about lenses etc. My main use would be some track shot's but also some close people pictures!
So can anyone reccomend a starter Canon SLR and lense?
Any good deals atm I have seen the offer on the 20D? thread but would this suit me??
Thanks in advance
Sam

Ignore the Nikon Trolls...
Your best best would be to buy the 20D or 350D (whichever is cheaper/feels better for you to hold).
Get the kit lens that comes with it (18-55 - not all that bad) and also buy the Canon 75-300 USM lens (about £110 from somewhere like www.warehouseexpress.co.uk)
This will give you an 'everyday and people' lens, as well as a long zoom for track days...

Haha I get i now!! Nikon huh!
Thanks for the advice! they sound fine for me. What do you think to buying secondhand cameras? Would it be worth paying that bit extra for new?
The "Canon Outlet" on eBay seems to get about £440 ish for a base 350D with kit lens compared to the best net retailer prices of around 490.
That example of around 10% less then a regular retailer will offer seems consistnet for mosr current products. So I guess it is about what the market will accept.
The stock they offer seems to be either ex-display or returned and 're-furbished' and appears to carry full warranty and so on. As I have not bought from them I cannot vouch for their service but the pricing indicators may be worth considering.
Most of the time (but not always) most high street shops will be at least 10% up on the e-tailer's prices. Or so it seems.
Buying S/h is a matter of knowing what the use and treatment has been. If the price is right it can be a good deal even if the goods are not perfect. IMHO.
